Meet the Welsh U20s prop star that could potentially be left clubless
Considering the paucity of props with the prerequisite physique to play the game effectively at the highest level, one wonders how a standout age-grade prop like Joe Jones could potentially be left without a professional club.
The former Mold RFC junior had previously joined Sale Sharks and after two years with the Sharks, Jones signed a deal at Cardiff Blues and impressed for Cardiff RFC in the last 12 months. Jones was part of the Wales Under-20 set-up for the Junior World Championship in Italy in the summer of 2015, and the Under-18 set-up before that.
At 6ft and 120kg, the 20-year-old already has the textbook build for the position, and as the video shows is no slouch scrummaging or with ball in hand. Yet despite being on the books of the Cardiff Blues, he has yet to play a match for them. This in a position in which exposure to a higher level of opposition is vital for development.
