Despite being an immediate and obvious success within weeks of putting on pads in the NFL, Rugby League turned American Footballl star Jarryd Hayne has been sensational cut from the San Franciso 49ers.
Many rugby fans - both League and Union - had been following his new career, and were delighted as he put in stand-out performances in pre and then regular season matches for his new team.
However, the 49ers have decided to 'waive' him for player on the practice squad. According to their website: "The San Francisco 49ers announced on Saturday that they have promoted RB Kendall Gaskins to the active roster from the team’s practice squad. In order to make room on the roster, the team has waived RB Jarryd Hayne."
Despite making yardage that would make most NFL verterans jealous, he did fumble 3 of 17 attempts, which is apparently a big no-no.
Just hours before he was cut, Hayne was tweeting about the Rugby World Cup, but now his NFL dream may well be over. Maybe time to turn his hand to Rugby Union?
